In this assignment I did an introduction to photoshop. I had to take a picture, put it in photoshop, make it black and white, and then make my own pop art version of it. This was done by making a canvas 200% bigger and then copy and pasting four copies of the black and white photo in the canvas. Lastly I made each copy of the photos a different color: red, blue, yellow, and green. For the last picture I used a similar process but a different picture. The pictures below, in order, are the black and white copy of my original, the pop art version, and the last 'fun' photo. In this assignment I learned about the basics of photoshop. I have never used photoshop before so most of this was brand new for me. I learned how to use filters on photos in photoshop as well as how to resize the canvas. I thought it was really cool learning how to change the colors of the pictures and I can see how this will come in handy for later on in class. I also learned about layers in photoshop and how to move them. Lastly I learned what a threshold dialogue was. Overall, I learned a lot in this assignment and after a little trouble in the beginning I got the hang of it. The process was pretty repetitive.

For my first shooting assignment I am going to focus on animals. I want to work on capturing an animal's personality or maybe the motion of an animal. I am thinking of using either one of my cats or one of my chickens.
Links to photos I used as inspiration are below. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/463167142905930162/ https://picsart.com/i/image-grey-cat-cat-grey-eyes-animal-domesticanimal-268344250018201 https://www.aliciariusphotography.com/blog/2017/2/12/falcon-lady-my-latest-photoshoot-with-a-falcon In these photos I really liked how the used different depths of field to show the different animals. I also liked the use of lines in the one with the chicken and the use of light in the one with the dog. I think these photos are good examples for what I want to try and capture for this assignment. Assignment descriptionThe purpose of this assignment was to introduce the class to different photography techniques and how to implement the techniques. First I took notes on the different techniques: Rule of Thirds, Pattern, Symmetry, Texture, Depths of Field, Lines, Framing, Perspective, Space, Balance, and Color. After that I went out and around the school to take photos as examples of each of the different techniques listed above. The last part of our assignment was to create a blog and then post examples of each of the techniques. Rule of thirdsFor this photo I placed Lauryn's head at about 2/3 of the way from the top of the photo and positioned her so she is about 2/3 of the way in the frame. patternFor pattern I took a picture of chairs stacked which shows the legs of the chairs meeting in opposing patterns. symmetryI took a picture of the concession stand windows to show the two shut doors with the paper centered between them to show the symmetry of the situation. textureThis photo shows the texture of the stone walls in the school, and I took it more at an angle to show the concrete space between each square that the rocks in the wall. depths of fieldIn this photo I used my rings in the foreground and my phone in the background to show the differences in depth, with the focal point being the rings and the phone in the background providing more depth. linesIn this photo I focused on converging lines with the line created between the spaces of the plaques, as well as adding in a little of the parallel lines with the two lines created above and below the plaques. framingI used the window as a frame for the picnic table and trees outside in this photo. perspectiveI took this photo from below the plant which allowed it to look as though the plant is falling down towards me and giving it more perspective. spaceThis photo demonstrates space in that the pegs inside the piano and the strings attacked to them fill the whole frame and are the central piece. balanceI took this photo using the balance between the mirror and the window with the brick in the background. The photo balances between the mirror, with Lauryn and myself in it, and the brick outside the window. colorThe color in this photo is generally more monotone with the more muted blue and purple, but the white of the Japanese flag draws the eye to it with its juxtaposition between the sharp white and the blue and purple. what i learnedI did not know much at all about photography composition before this assignment. I thought it was very interesting to learn about techniques that I had never thought about before. I had never heard about the rule of thirds before this class and now that I have learned about it I am starting to notice it a lot more often, which I think is very cool. My favorite composition photo was the depth of field one because I think that the technique can create a very neat and creative photo. At first I had a little difficulty with the rule of thirds because I had never thought about it before, but after the assignment it is slowly becoming more natural and easier to do. This assignment taught me to not just take a photo, but to think about the composition of the photo and how to take the picture to the next level.
Hi, my name is Julie Wooldridge and this is my digital photography blog!
I am a senior at Saline High School and I love reading, photography, and music. I play the viola in the Chamber Orchestra, and I have been playing viola since fifth grade. I love fantasy, science fiction, historical, and biographical novels. I am a member of the National Honor Society and I have been since sophomore year. I am taking digital photography because I love photography, but I have always wanted to learn the more intricate details of the process. I am very excited to learn how to work around the camera and what the different settings mean all while slowly improving my photo skills. I do not have any professional experience, but I do enjoy taking pictures of birds in the winter. I am excited to learn all about photography! |
